There was a specific kind of magic that happened when your mom pushed the cart past the bakery section at the grocery store. You were not there for bread. You were not there for muffins. And then there were the Backyardigans. The Backyardigans cake is a very specific cultural artifact. That show aired from 2004 and it hit a very particular kind of kid, the kind whose parents also happened to be at a grocery store that stocked the Backyardigans cake option, which was not every grocery store, which made getting one feel like winning something.
